Horses for Veterans Horsemanship and Wellness Program
Three years ago, Maurette Hanson began a professional collaboration with The Palm Beach Vet Center (a sub-sect of the Department of Veterans Affairs) to create a program that would address Combat Veterans PTSD and Readjustment back into “healthy civilian” life through a therapeutic relationship with horses. The program incorporates equine therapy to assist our Veterans returning from war, and most recently, those who have survived Military Sexual Trauma (MST). It is co-facilitated with Maurette by one of the licensed clinical social work staff members from the Palm Beach Vet Center who provides on-site, in-session, psychotherapeutic care for the veterans involved in the program. Maurette Hanson is a PATH, Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, PATH, Intl. Certified Equine Specialist, with 20+ years experience of equine management. She is the Owner/Manager of Angel Smile Farm, LLC located in Loxahatchee Groves, FL. Along with her certifications and years of experience, she is also a 16 year practitioner of natural horsemanship and Special Olympic Equine Coach. PATH, Intl.(Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International) is a worldwide organization that sets the standards and guidelines for equine assisted therapies. , www.pathintl.org.
